Tottenham will try to prise highly-rated centre-back Curtis Davies from West Brom with an £8million bid in January's transfer window.Spurs have shown they are prepared to splash the cash to recruit up-and-coming English players, having signed Michael Dawson, Paul Robinson, Aaron Lennon and Jermaine Jenas in recent years. Now Martin Jol has turned his attention to Baggies defender Davies, who was a summer target for both Wigan and Arsenal. The 21-year-old looked a class act in the Premiership last season but could not prevent his side being relegated to the Championship. But since being appointed captain at The Hawthorns for this season's promotion bid, Davies has been badly out of sorts. New boss Tony Mowbray has only won two of eight games he has overseen so far and admits he is looking to shake up his squad in January's window of opportunity. Davies cost £3million when he signed from Luton so chairman Jeremy Peace may give the thumbs up to an £8million bid from Spurs and give Mowbray the cash to bring in his own players. Spurs boss Jol wants Davies to provide stiff competition for current centre-half pairing Michael Dawson and Ledley King.
And Mowbray said: "If we are going to lose a star player then while it is difficult, if the team benefits longer term, that is what is important."
