Goals from Chris Brunt, a Fabian Delph own goal and Youssouf Mulumbu were not enough to earn Albion even a point after the Baggies threw away a dream start at Villa Park.
Albion were two up inside nine minutes before conceeding three goals inside 24 minutes. Mulumbu levelled on the stroke of half time but Cristian Benteke's second half penalty gave Villa the bragging rights.
